Its membership geographic field’s North boundary is the Missouri River and South boundary is 95th Street. Its West boundary is Troost Ave. and East boundary is I-435, commonly called “The East Side”. Some irregular boundary exceptions exist around downtown Kansas City. All those living, working or worshiping within the defined area are eligible to become members by signing up and making a minimal deposit into a savings account which credit unions call a “share account”. The term “share” comes from the fact that the credit union is non-profit and owned by its members.
Like all credit unions, WDFCU will be owned by its members and operated by professionals who look like them. All the funds generated by the credit union will stay in the East side and much of its loan proceeds will circulate in the East side economy.
